“An Artistic Analysis of the Glazed Bricks of Qalaichi in the Context of Visual Arts”

The present article is a study titled “The Glazed Bricks of Qalaichi from the Perspective of Visual Arts,”
which examines these artifacts as part of the documented history of painting from around 600 to 900 B.C.
In this paper, the author first provides an introduction to the Mannaean civilization and its art, then analyzes the lines, colors, forms, and structures of these glazed bricks.

Although this research closely investigates the architectural decorations—such as various types of glazed bricks—it also analytically seeks to explore the dimensions of Mannaean art, including the formation of form and space, as well as the artistic and scientific significance of these works. The study focuses on execution methods, techniques, understanding of forms, and the use of different colors.

It is noteworthy that the paintings rendered on the glazed bricks of Qalaichi are considered remarkably innovative for their time. As a result, they evolved into a more naturalistic art form with greater freedom of expression. The artists of these works introduced new and significant ideas to the realm of painting, leaving profound influences on subsequent artistic creations.

The motifs and discoveries unearthed after thousands of years from the palace-temple of Qalaichi, located in the ancient city of Izirtu, stand today as some of the most important evidence and documentation of the national, social, architectural, and artistic identity of the Mannaean civilization.
