Anfal

This body of work seeks to transform the tragic phenomenon of Anfal into a symbolic, expressionist narrative—one that rises from the roots of realism yet transcends into a realm of deeper truth. The paintings shift from static presence toward an expressive reality, striving to capture the abyss of a twentieth-century catastrophe, born within the fragile coexistence of unstable histories and volatile politics. Through the strokes of the palette knife, the raw clashes of color, the heavy textures, the dark tonalities across figures and grounds—alongside deformation and an intentional aesthetic ambiguity—the Kurdish human subject emerges. A subject scarred by the inevitabilities of history and geography, and marked by the weight of totalitarian and authoritarian hegemony.
